brought 2 of my kids and son's girlfriend to sheffield today, met a few forum-ers for dinner in Fagan's, saw the Sheffield eye (and learned it was the last day today, glad I saw it before it disappeared)

we were told by some that Sheffield is a nightmare for driving round, which almost put me off bringing the car, was a pleasant surprise to find out that wasn't ay worse than any other major city.....
Had to leap out of the car and take a picture of this, it really tickled me

I feel so gullible! They obviously think they'll get more people to go up in it by telling them that!

I suppose this has been asked before but any connection to your family heritage and the street name?

i looked into it,there isn't a direct line to me personally but i found a map of that street that dated back to the mid 16th century with the street name of"Hawley croft"which actually ran through the middle of the Hawley street/townhead st estate.the Hawley name crops up throughout the cities history,it is found in people from the past from all social backgrounds throughout the centuries,i found a list of prisoners names that were transported from here and Hawley cropped up a lot.........i think that lot are my ancestors

ha ha don't worry about it, when we did our family tree we discovered Dick Turpin is one of our ancestors!

Thought the addition of your first name in chalk above the street name was really cute, a good tribute.

The chalk could have said a lot worse things

I think the fact that it was Sunday would make a difference....I liked parking up at Meadowhall and taking the tram in the first time I came....but then when I came at night for The Janskys gig I had great directions to take the A61 straight to Fagans and park there......it helped that I had got my bearings a bit the first time......and that the parking was free at night......still would hesitate to drive through the city during a weekday though......but I am a bit of a wimp...

Me too Jean, I went to see a learner at Broomhill last week, have to drive through the dreaded Woodseats (traffic jam) and several scary roundabouts too. Then the student didn't show up for the meeting. Grrrrrrr. However, a visit to the record collector cheered things up no end.

I saw a sign for the 'Shalesmoor Gyratory'. Is this a type of local dance?
