My Mum threatened to sell me to i] the gypsies ii] drunken sailors if I didn't go to Sunday School.

I would have had a much more exciting life if had not taken the path of fundamemtal methodism - but I thank it for my appreciation of all things alcoholic...

Go bless Mum's everywhere 8)

My Mum used to make me go to Sunday School while she and my Dad watched George Formby films on telly...I hated it...so used to pop into Shirley's sweet shop down Morley Bottoms and spend the 3d collection money and then go for a walk for an hour.......

That said....make the most of your Mums .... x

My Grandad was the Methodist lay preacher and head of Sunday school - if i didn't turn up - everybody knew about it.

One year I achieved about 102 marks in my star card out of 104 - my prize for being top was a Bible.

Set me up for life

when did you have scurvy?!!!
(Alice says she'll try it with lime and ice next time)

it was kind of a joke  its why americans call us"limeys"cos english sailors used to eat limes to avoid contracting scurvy fact fans

Always roll this one out when explaining the role of Vitamin C to learners...I just love the collective teenage eeeeww that happens when I describe the effects of scurvy (teeth fall out,old wounds re-open). Come to think of it, it's a wonder anyone ever went to sea at all...

Well the big day finally came and went (yesterday). Very emotional day!
Very impressed with City Hall as I've never been inside before........only been to the room at the back (Memorial Hall?).

Thanks to all those that suggested eateries.........we finally ended up eating at The London Club......but all those suggestions will be tucked away in the memory for future trips to Sheffield.............like this Saturday!

How the hell did this thread start off with restaurant suggestions....move onto scurvy, Methodism(?),George Formby and Sunday school??????

We've only just started - what about the ceiling in the City Hall eh?

I went to my first gig there last April and spent half the time looking up at a work of art!

Gald to hear everything went along OK.

Hey up Richard,
You're not wrong about the Kasmiri Aroma - just been there tonight and it was great. The food was spot on and the place it's self is pretty tasty too!
And dead reasonable.
