We really wanted to be over there on Saturday to watch The Crookes, The Hosts and Paul Thomas Saunders, but we had Puressence on at our pub (which was amazing). Did anybody catch any of the three acts mentioned above? Any reports? Come on, make us feel even worse for not getting over to Sheffield.

Saw The Hosts at the Library, they were alright. Tried seeing The Crookes at the Shakey but was late getting down there and it was absolutely rammed. Heard last couple of songs from the beer garden.

Reckon i saw 25 'gigs' in all, though a few of those were literally a couple of songs. Roaming Son were on top form Friday night, Neil McSweeney & David J. Roch was as ace as expected on Sunday. Coma Girls and Big Convoy were probably Saturday night's highlights, as well as the bit of a guy called Andrew Duhon from New Orleons who i stumbled across in the Green Room. Other new to me new band that got the day off to a good start were Novella on the New Music stage. Everly Pregnants were typically fun on the Sunday and enjoyed Pistola Kicks acoustic spot at The Riverside too.

Only minor irritant was every where in town you turned seeing people with billboards for 'Shefftival'. Can't help feeling the eye was taken off the ball a bit with Tramlines this year and it's become a trailer for that.

Didn't get much chance to see any of the other bands that were on cos was quite busy gigging myself!
Played the Frog Fri & Bath Hotel Sunday with Roaming Son, both great gigs, Frog was packed, and the Bath Hotel had to turn people away. was a really special gig for us.
Also did the Gardeners Rest & CADS blues stage on saturday, both great. there was a great crowd down at CADS, brilliant vibe. just a shame that a place like that probably wont be included in the reviews of tramlines., it will all be about the main stages.
Managed to catch a bit of Smiling Ivy at the Frog, they got the corwd worked up. also saw blues duo the Blackbirds. always a treat for me. they had rapper Ruby Kid up for a tune which worked surprisingly well.
Fantastic weekend.

Friday night Library Theatre; David J & See Emily Play (with orchestra) both excellent, then various stuff in the pubs.

Saturday started with some ice-shack dayglo slush-puppy things for the kids and chilled acoustics (Captives on the Carousel & Early Cartographers), plus a very fine Screaming Maldini set in Weston park, then a couple of Busker's buses - past the bands on the roof of the Fat Cat which looked good; very splendid set from Dave Woodcock (& Snapper) among the 'vintage' hosiery and jackets under City Hall - (told off for standing too close with beer - what do you expect if you put a clothes stall two feet from the stage) - think I spotted Craig there (?) - bit of food and reggae on the world stage; had to whizz chidlers back to babysitter, then back for Nat Johnson at the cathedral, then down to the Shakey for Crookes, which is the hottest sweatiest place I've been in a while. Then a VERY long walk home; (after dark during Ramadam - not a good time for taxis!).

Sunday had the in-laws over, so did Gardeners & Fat Cat for a bit of blues and ale, then back to Weston Park for tea and buns (them) and Standard Fare (us). Meant to do more after that but circumstances took over.

Top weekend all round really.

Thought it was a great weekend. James Yorkston and Future of the Left on Saturday - two of my absolute faves. Joy unconfined!

Sunday I wandered around for about 6 hours dipping in and out with my 6 year old in tow. Caught Standard Fare twice, including on the slightly terrifying buskers bus...

A review and a couple of shonky vids

A couple more ropey vids from Standard Fare on the buskers bus. http://soundsxp.com/artman2/publish/gigs/James_Yorkston_Future_of_the_Left_Tramlines.shtml
