Found this on the Sheffield Forum - as it seems like an official page am posting here. It seems that developers want to tear down part (or more likely most) of this wood for a service station. Shouldn't be allowed to happen.

It was on BBC Look North yesterday. Apparently the justification is that they need a service station for drivers every 30 miles. Some of the woodland is from the 1600's and is irreplaceable. Let the drivers drive another few miles and find a better site I say - once this woodland is gone it is gone forever - even worse when you think that they are replacing it with another toilet block, a MacDonalds, a few cashpoints and an M&S food no doubt - real cultural icons that will be valued in years to come :roll:

Sent a message to every Sheffielder I know about this last week it's a disgrace

We need trees to breath......even from that basic point it makes sense to protect them,leaving aside for a nanosecond their beauty in this situation it's a clear cut fight against stupidity and greed..Henry VIII was alive when most of those trees were planted ... Keep the trees.... Breath.......they're replacement is impossible X

Can see our offices on that photo!

The brownfield site is all of 45 seconds off the M1 using the existing road but no doubt that will allegedly prove too much of an inconvenience to some :(

Let's hope public opinion wins out on this one.

McDonalds are to start a new franchise 'Heritage McDonalds' - they are all to be built on the site of places of cultural significance - a blue placque confirming this will be placed on the exit door of the ladies and gents toilets.
