I used to live in Sheffield, but haven't been back for a couple of years. I'm coming up this weekend with some of my old mates, and i'm looking for some pointers about what to do / where to go.

We're all 30-somethings who like to think we've still 'got it', but last time we came up we went down West Street etc and just found ourselves in loads of packed, studenty bars rather than decent pubs. So I suppose i'm looking for places to go / things to do that are quite lively but involve plenty of sitting down.

Off to see Wednesday on the sat, of course, but beyond that i'm a bit stuck for ideas. Too old for the student pubs, too young to organise a paintballing day!

Any ideas / venues gratefully received.

Jon

The Holy Trinity. Fagans > The Grapes > The Dog & Partridge.

Infact this Saturday's a decent night in The Grapes. They have DJs downstairs playing vinyl off the bar. Lots of Rock & Roll, Soul and stuff, none of that techno or indie bollocks.

like the two gentlemen said, you can't go wrong with the "holy trinity" - also in the vicinity are the red deer, bath hotel and the washington, all of which get relatively lively but with plenty of seating opportunities.

I've got mates up for the weekend and I'll be following the 'Holy Trinity' plans to the letter.

What times can you get grub in Fagans on a Saturday? I'm not usually around Saturdays.

It's a regular (last Saturday of the month) night called 'Heard It Thru The Grapesvine'. Don't know who's playing upstairs (whoever it is it's usually only £3), but it's a good enough night downstairs where it's free anyway.
