Omigod! Me too. I don't remember it for the life of me but my mum swears it's true. I'm not ashamed to admit that I love Boney M (no sniggering at the back!!! They remind me of being kid) but the one song I can't stand is Brown Girl in the Ring... funny one that...

First song I really remember is Video Killed the Radio Star, probably cos the video was always on TV. I was only five at the time... wish it could've been something cooler I remember...

I have just gone on iTunes to find out what this Paper Tiger song is - I'd never heard it before, and probably won't be hearing it again. 8)

Oh crikey, that takes me back. :*:

Mrs Baldwin's infant class, aged 8 I'd guess, sometime in 1971 (?) For some reason she thought it would be a good idea to get us all to dance to some pop music instead of our usual Music & Movement (Stage Two). The latest Middle of the Road smasheroo was the only record she had with her. Must have played it about 5 times in a row.

All the girls were giving it their best Pan's People moves learned off TOTP, while most of the boys were sitting sullenly on the sidelines refusing to do anything as "puffy" as dancing to pop music

First record that I can clearly remember is Englebert Humperdinck - Please Release Me It was all over the radio when I was about 4 or 5. My dad used to sing it all the time when he was combing his hair and grooming his sideys before nipping out for a couple of pints. Even my grandad, who thought that music pretty much began & ended with Bing Crosby, was known to get up and sing it in the local

Not a record ... but my great uncle harry singing "It's a long way to tipperary" :D I loved great uncle harry, and he used to sing all the songs he remembered as a kid (which seemed to be repertoire of WWI songbook). My older sis went to Ireland a while back and insisted on going to Tipperary ... said it was very wet and not to bother :*:

My parents used to listen to jazz, swing and especially Frank Sinatra. I think Songs for Swinging Lovers is the first record I remember. It was part of the soundtrack to my childhood.

My favourite early group though was Madness. All us kids loved Madness.

I was working in a record shop around 1979/80 and we used to get loads of kids (almost always boys) buying Madness records. The other thing they liked was coloured vinyl - they used to come in and ask for the latest Madness single and then ask, not 'Is it on coloured vinyl?' but just 'Is it on vinyl?' So I'd reply 'Yes.....................black vinyl' and they'd look at me as if I was mad.
