  I'd have thought that too, sunflower ... can't think why though given that women throw themselves at Dave.

.... bit like lemmings I suppose  :*: :*:

back on topic of politeness, in case I strayed ... do you think lemmings say "after you" when they reach the cliff?

London is the worst for rudeness, and the tube is truly horrendous ... I prefer a later start and finishing late to avoid the pushing, shoving and aggression. I try to be polite and offer my seat or on occasion hankies when called for ... what is it about the tube?

And I am always polite to shop assistants, BigLouise :*: ... please, thank you ... and any chance of a discount?!

... Glasgow definitely the friendliest place to shop. :*:

Discount to friendly people any time, be my guest :D

I lived in Seattle for a little while ten years ago and was so charmed by how polite and nice everyone seemed at first. But I had committed the heinous crime of being from California and as I got to know people, I found some of the rudest encounters there than I had anywhere else. It seemed that as long as you were smiling you could say the most insulting things and people weren't allowed to be offended. Typical conversation:

"Oh, you moved here from San Francisco?"

"Yes"

"How do you like it?"

"I love it, it's so beautiful here, so much to do. It's great."

"Yeah. You know I really hate San Francisco. Californians are so [insert litany of crimes against humanity here]...."

I also routinely had people shove me out of the way to get at things in the grocery store -- they wouldn't make eye contact and pretended that they weren't leaning up against me or pushing me and my cart out of the way with theirs as they slowly inched into the place I was actively occupying. They didn't think they were being rude and if you complained or showed any irritation at their behavior then *you* were the one being rude. It was a passive aggressive hell-hole for this aggressive city girl, who always says please and thank you and excuse me.

My stint in retail at Fisherman's Wharf when I was in my early twenties taught me all I needed to know about rudeness and killing people with kindness -- worked nearly every time... the ruder they were to me the sweeter I was.

If you're fed up with rude behaviour, stick around here for manners and decorum straight out of Debretts. I find Dave and Craig in particular to be exemplars of politeness, while many others express their charm in a more rustic, less polished way.

Decorum? On the forum?....Well, someone had to say it
