Just picking your brains again Mr H. Just picked up an album on market 'Gene Vincent and Blue Caps' Just wondering what you think of Gene and what you reckon is his best stuff.

he's the Don............on high all his capitol albums are worth checking out the early one's are better with Cliff gallup on guitar but he did some boss stuff later on too he IS rock n roll

For a quick and complete Gene transfusion you can get the Gene Vincent Box Set on iTunes. £9.99, 151 tracks from '56 to '64. :)

Thanks Mr H and Simon for those suggestions. Much appreciated. The CD I got was a re-issue of 'Blue Jean Bop' with a few extra tracks but I think I'm going to have to investigate further.

There's great '56 era stuff that was never on the LPs too - i've got a few 78s with some great B-sides - 'Five Days, Five Days' 'Important Words' 'Woman Love' 'Gonna Back Up Baby'.



All great stuff - I think his first 3 LPs ('BlueJean Bop' 'Gene Vincent & The Bluecaps' 'Gene Vincent Rocks & The BlueCaps Roll') are the best. I absolutely love his version of 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. Amazing vibe.

Another favourite is his version of 'Unchained Melody'. Just great... :)

yes i agree his version of over the rainbow is awesome if you want to go mental get this my wife bought it for me for crimbo its truly fantastic but not cheap it doesn't try and air brush him it presents him in all his pool hall punk greasy glory.......

Oh fuck, you got that in the end! Magic.

Was watching him do Over The Rainbow on YouTube the other day and just stunning. There are loads of great performance from Gene right until he died and he truly deserves people to listen to how he was singing all the way through, a truly greater singer full stop. I'm getting misty eyes just typing this

I think this is from the film "Live it up" this film has a stack of Meek artists, I think Joe recorded this one too.

Nearly forgot :roll: Saw RH on Calendar, are you going to do a song about Scarborough :shock: you could shoot the vid on the Olivers Mount circuit riding that BSA with a bird on the back in an headscarf, very retro.

Just noticed I'm a groupie now...do I get a badge or summat :P
Anyone remotely interested in the sixties era should read Chas Hodges book, it's a real gem..

Think Gene went up to 304 to record that song didn't he. I can't remember which way round this goes but weren't there two recordings of the song, one done at Joe's & one at EMI? One went out as a 45, the other was the one shown on the film. 8)

Its a favourite of mine too.........................kind of simple but so effective...............he really has a great voice ....................and love the guitar on it................ 8)
