Nice picture of you with Neil Diamond in the current issue of Mojo magazine Richard. I am glad that he is getting the acclaim he deserves at the moment, he was always way above the usual Las Vegasy type crooners. What was he like?

Neil Diamond may be classed as a Las Vegas crooner but I assume you don't really know his early work.

Songs like Solitary Man, Kentucky Woman, Girl you'll Be A Woman Soon, Red Red Wine I could go on.

Vegas beckoned a long way down the line and why not, they were willing to pay megabucks.

He paid his dues early on he was part of a duo at one time Neil and Jack, I have a couple of track, he recorded a demo for Pat Boone called Ten Lonely Guys (have that too).

I am I said, To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair
I am, I cried
I am, said I
And I am lost, and I can't even say why
Leavin' me lonely still

I am very very aware of all of his work and have been a fan of his since the early 70's not just the last two critically aclaimed albums that have put him back in the spotlight but whether you like it or not to a very large part of the population he will be forever a Las Vegas type act which is a shame.

i totally agree he is a classic song writer i mean even if he stopped in 1969 he would have still written some of the best songs of all time

Neil Diamond is at last been given the acclaim that he deserves, another artist that I would love to see get some decent acclaim is Gilbert O'Sullivan, I have tickets to see him in The Olimpia in Dublin later in the year and I have always loved his songs. I saw Morrissey do a great cover version of Nothing Rhymed at The Ambassedor in Dublin a number of years back. Have you ever had any interest in him Richard?

Not refering to you Richard my response was based on the Las Vegas act comment that Denisc made which has been clarified.

May have misunderstood the comment so apologies I was merely trying to emphasise that there was more to him than Las Vegas glitz.

I prefer his 60's, 70's work to be perfectly honest.

In answer to your question about 20 if we count the box set In My Lifetime as 3.
