Inspired by another thread i was wondering if anyone liked this band too, I am posting on here because they were formed in Sheffield i believe by Jamie Fry and Gordon King.
They nearly made it big, i love the 'Quality Street' album and 'The Storm' 'She's A Rainbow' etc and it was so sad when Tony Ogden died.
Hope you can share some story's about them.

Didn't they do 'This Too Shall Pass Away' ? A Joe Meek tribute. I have a tape of this, but was never 100% sure it was them. It has a vocal track over it which was taken from the Arena documentary of Joe. I always wanted to get hold of the purely instrumental version.

Lofty i'm listening to it now.. weird
On I- Tunes you can get 'Quality Street' for £9.99 but with loads of different 7 and 12 inch mixes etc, 26 tracks good value.
Or PM me and i'll send you a copy if you like
The version your after is called 'This too shall pass away (chat), on this CD.

So long as you set all the privacy stuff up and just stick to genuine friends and groups like this it's reasonably safe.

Here's the blurb from the page:

Music - Indie
Description: The World of Twist whose original line-up consisted of James Fry (vocals), Andrew Hobson (bass), Gordon King (guitar), Tony Ogden (drums), Rory Conolly (saxophone), Nick Phillips (organ) and Andy Robbins (synthesiser). This version soon disintegrated, and some years later a new line-up emerged, this time based in Manchester.Becoming a more sensitive and some might say bohemian slant on the new manchester scene in bodied by The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays.
The 1989 version of World Of Twist featured Ogden (now vocalist and co-songwriter), King (guitar and co-songwriter later in indie band Earl Brutus), and Hobson (synthesisers) joined by Alan Frost (visual effects, synthesisers), Julia (swirls and sea noises) and Angela Reilly (visual effects). Nick Sanderson (drums also later in Earl Brutus) joined some time later.
A demo tape (featuring "The Storm", "Blackpool Tower Suite", "The Spring", and "She's a Rainbow") released in early 1990 drew attention to the band, and a deal with Circa Records followed. The label issued the singles "The Storm", "She's a Rainbow" (produced by Martin Hannett who also worked with Roses and Mondays) and "Sons of the Stage" that same year.

The band's live show and Radio 1 sessions for John Peel and Mark Goodier raised expectations, but their debut album, Quality Street (1991), met with little critical or commercial acclaim. It also featured on Jools Hollands Juke Box Jury and was slated by fellow mancunians New Order who called them "art students" this also helped to seal there fate.

While the World of Twist never toured in North America, "Sons of the Stage" was a indie/ club hit in Toronto and NYC.
Work began on a follow up album and there were plans for further touring, but problems emerged when Tony Ogden decided that he no longer wanted to sing. This, coupled with creative differences within the band, contributed to the demise of the group. A legendary second album is rumoured to exist and on this are the tunes which Ogden was working on with new band Bubblegum which were never formally released but sound very World of Twisty.

It's a small world in the Sheffield music biz, i bet Joe Cocker is your window cleaner. I watched a program on BBC4 about the Manchester music scene from the 60's to now and i look at all the talent and musical history in Sheffield and then i think off the North East music scene and my heart sinks, it's crud.
