Dave actually got me to watch this film the other night after going on about it for weeks! Is very good. :D Far far far far better than 'This is England' which i personally found very dissapointing compared to all the other Shane Meadows films i've seen :(

This is England is apparently set in the "midlands" town of grimsby :?

whilst shane may well be the scorsese of the midlands, it is streching a definition of "midlands" to include grimsby - which after all is quite northerly and also by the sea.....

I was a bit disappointed with Somers Town. Far too short and despite Meadows saying he was given carte blanche by Eurostar to make their film and they didn't interfere, there seemed to be a feeling at the end of "Hey, look how GREAT it is in Paris! You can afford to come and do this too - after all, if a runaway and an immigrant's son can find the cash to buy a ticket, surely you can!"

Some wonderful touches in the film though. The first sight of "TERRY HENRY" and Tommo's reaction to the Polish food had me howling.

I realise I have just bumped a rather old thread, but I just watched "Dead Mans Shoes" after being given a copy for a Christmas Present. I found it an incredible piece of cinema - the acting was very strong indeed. Having lived in Matlock most of my life, I recognised most of the locations i.e Hurst Farm Estate (where I lived for a while) & social club (where I occasionally boozed), 'shag alley', Salters Lane and Bonsall area, Riber Castle, and of couse Matlock Town Centre.

I thought it was wonderful that Matlock and it's surrounding area was used in a film that conveyed such a sense of realism, drama and typical Brit 'grittiness'. I get a bit weary of seeing the area used in the latest costume production...

Nice one Shane!

Cheers, Steve.
