anyone know what gauge strings are best for tennessee tuning? (acoustic)and also is it the first four strings (from the low E) that are tuned an octave higher? been thinking of giving it a go.
tried to find somethings on the net but not much about.

Is that the same as Nashville tuning? I may be wrong but I thought Nashville tuning was like taking off the "normal" pitch strings off a 12 string guitar to leave on the octave strings of low E, A, D and G whilst the B and high E were normal pitch. I broke a octave G on my 12 string Yamaha acoustic once and a guitar shop recommended a light guage E string.

that sounds like it might be right, i think you can do it on a 6 string as well.

i have been using this tuning since i was a kid,just put the octave strings off a 12 string on your guitar,i use it loads on my stuff its an amazing sound

I'd forgot all about this untill reading the recent Guitarist magazine and someone had written in asking about Nashville / Tennessee tuning, anyway, i've got my dad to string up his parlour guitar with a set.
It sounds amazing! especially if theres two guitarists and one is playing standard tuning. really opens up new sounds and brings new life into all the old chords.
I can see why mr H likes it. well worth a try if you've got a spare guitar lying around.
D'addario actually do a set so you don't have to buy a set of 12 string strings and just use the octaves.

me and my boy both have guitars in Nashville tuning - we use the Daddario's good cost effective way of doing this- agree with Richard about how nice they sound and when layered with a standard guitar they give a really lush jangly sound - Quality
