Have a listen to this version of Mystery Train. The guitar playing is unbelieveable. People talk about Jimi Hendrix but in my opinion this guy is better. I don't really like virtuoso guitar playing as a rule but this guy in a genius the way he blends rockabily, country, jazz into his own unique style. Check out this amazing cover. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggN-HKq3FG8

Thanks for the link - great fun, that.

Not sure about the Hendrix comparison tbh but stunning stuff, marred only by the pvc keks.

i've got the dvd from what that clip is from, its the Setzer orchestra live in toky, fantastic show. every song is guitar heaven really!, i really love the sound of that guitar, it's a Gretsch Spectrsonic, co-designed with T.V Jones..the sound is the reason ive put some baritone strings on one of my guitars and tuned it to a C!

Too fuckin right Setzer has always been in my top ten fave guitar players since Bloodless Pharaohs, Tom Cats, right through the Stray cats era, to his present multiple band personalities, never had time for Hendrix, and that 60's 70's Rock thing, no appeal at all.
Remember seeing the Stray Cats supporting Split Enz about 1982 at The Royal Court theatre Liverpool.
There was a massive Rockabilly/ Teddy boy/ Psychobilly movement late 70's to mid 80's glad I was around and just old enough at the time to get on it.
Indeed along with Danny B Harvey, Danny Gatton, Nick Curran, Mick Green some great guitar slinging talent out there, off centre from the main stream.

Jimi was an amazing player, but this guy is every bit as good if not better in my humble opinion

personally i don't think you can fault hendrix, he was just a one off, still amazes me to this day,
however i do prefer the style of setzer,
both of them are fantastic guitarists in their own right :D

Don't get me wrong. I really respect Hendrix as a player but I think Setzer should be held in the same regard as all the great guitar legends. He dosn't get the credit he deserves in my opinion. Whether it be Hendrix, Jimi page, Dave Gilmore, Johnny Marr or whoever Setzer should be up the with the guitar greats in my opinion

i wouldn't disagree with that :)
i think you're right in saying he doesn't get as much credit as hendrix, marr etc, despite being just as good, you're right theyre all up there

I saw an elsebound train, on the overpass
In the driving rain, every ticket costs the same
For where you can't go
Mustang horses, champagne glasses
Anything frail anything wild
It's the price of living motion, what's beautiful is broken
And grace is just the measure of a fall.
