Saturday night was fantastic. Parked at the Arena early (16:40 ish) so
we could have a few beers over the road. Got out of the car to hear 'The
Fix' banging out from inside. :D

Inside, impressed with the set and also very impressed with Villagers.

Guy Garvey was on top form, amazing voice and plenty of banter. He
introduced Richard as "The Lord Mayor of Sheffield" to a fantastic
reception. 'The Fix' was ace, a real bonus. Richard's voice was excellent
in the arena but his guitar towards the end of 'The Fix' was sublime and
filled the arena. It was all over far too quickly and we can't wait until Mr H
is back on the road.

Thanks for turning out Richard and did you catch your bus?

The rest of the elbow set was exceptional and as Mr L has posted on
another thread, it felt like you were in a small club not an arena gig.

The new songs worked very well along side classics.

Top, top gig. 8)

If you have tickets to go this or next week you'll have a blast.

i had a lovely evening my kids and family got a big posh box to watch it all from that the band sorted out which was a really nice gesture on their part,i think Elbow are on fire, they really have the knack of making a huge shed feel oddly intimate which takes real skill,Guy is one of our best writers and one of our best frontmen and the band are just simply awesome i would have enjoyed it just watching but to play too was a real bonus........the support band really impressed me,The Villagers they were called i recommend them to you all

Didn't realise there was another thread here.
me & missus L really enjoyed it,
thought that Guy had the crowd on his side from the start.
The gig was fantastic, highlights for me were 'The Fix', 'Tower Crane Driver' 'Starlings' (awesome when the trumpets kicked in) and the little acoustic bit in the middle of the audience. loved the piano /cocktail bar. 'The night Will Allways Win' was amazing, and 'Some Riot' when all the band kicked in was fantastic.
top gig! :D

mate of mine took some pics here - very good they are too.

Just read what Egg,Mr L and the lord Mayor of Sheffield had to say and really cannot wait for this, i'm going on Monday - bit worried about the 02 as its soooo big and sometimes the sound is effected but judging by all the reviews i've read (here and on the Elbow facebook page - yes I am that sad) it should be good... The Night Will Always Win is one of my favourite tracks Mr L so I was pleased that you thought to mention it...sounds fantastic and i'm very , very excited.... :*: :*: :*:

It'll be great at the O2, they've got a good stage set up too, really atmospheric, 'The Night Will Always Win' is one of my faves off the new album too. Live it's very subtle, not going to spoil it for you but i was really impressed how they did it!
Bet you can't wait untill the gig, i want to go again.

Them pics are ace aren't they? theres one of Guy with his hand to his ear (everyone Whistling to 'Lippy Kids') which is fantastic.
Paul who took the photos has taken some of my band before, it's worth checking his other stuff out on Flickr too.

sadly Mr L, this did not pan out.... :(
our seats, which i'd ordered through the elbow website 2 days before they went on sale, were in the bloody gods.. you got a nose bleed just sitting there.. i was looking longingly at the crowds around the stage..god knows why i didn't get standing tickets i can't remember now but think it was because I thought our daughter was coming with us! anyway, although we were near the stage we were so high up the atmosphere didn't really reach us, i was ashamed of the crowd! I looked around at one point and only our row and the one in front seemed to be clapping/waving... Guy and the band were brilliant but I'll definitely try and see them at a smaller venue next time, the 02 is a bit of a soulless cavern.... so it was good to see them but not the experience I hoped it would be , but not their fault! think it was a brilliant set though, loved the walkway when they did 'Weather to Fly' and 'Some Riot' - just brilliant ! :)

I saw them at Delamere Forest a couple of years ago, they were great. It is a shame you were so far away at the 02.

I know Susie, i have to get over it now, i'm moaning at anyone who'll listen.. my friend just rang me to ask how it was and got the full rant.. i think i'm more disappointed today than I was last night! i'd been so looking forward to it for months and months and then.... well, you know - i've heard about the Delamere Forest gig, its legendary , lucky you! i'll just keep my eyes out for any new gigs, sometimes they tag stuff on at the end of the tour so you never know...
