Scott Walker is working on his follow up to The Drift - my spy work tells me it will probably be out next year sometime- Lap steel player BJ Cole is collaborating with Scott on a track- though im guessing it might not sound like A track from Mr Hawley somehow....

so excited :Hoorah :Hoorah :Hoorah :Hoorah

Wish he'd do something more like Scott 4 though.

the lap steel info is from BJ Cole's website in the news section-

"SESSIONS: I'm to record with Scott Walker again after 36 years! I contributed pedal steel to 3 Scott Walker albums between 1972 and 1976, including the classic hit single 'No Regrets'. Scott has requested that I join him to work on a track for his new album, currently in production."

Scott's record label have confirmed he has started recording a new album- no release date etc yet- He is also composing a new score for an opera to be performed at the Royal Opera House in 2012 (not the Duet For One which was premiered this year)

Scott 3 is my personal favourite. I reckon that's a very innovative record in its own way. I'm gonna have another listen to The Drift.

Scott 3 is the one with It's Raining Today on it, right? My personal favourite, it's been a while since i listened to those first records, must dig them out soon.

That's the one. Got some great tracks on it, like Big Louise, Funeral Tango, Copenhagen.

I'm glad he did those 4 albums (Scotts 1-4) because they're his best stuff really aren't they, and after that I reckon he was entitled to move on to the really experimental stuff. If we were now on Scott 14 we might be getting a bit bored of that sound! Although there is definitely a progression through those albums.

Scott 3 is great and totally underrated compared to Scott 4, when they are probably on a par and with tracks like it's Raining Today and Rosemary, Big Louise and Two Ragged Soldiers it's hard to fault the album.

I think like you say theres a fairly clear progression through all the albums not just the 1-4 ones but up to now - and like he says in Angels of Ashes in Scott 4 - "That's alright for some who can hang the absurd on their walls" - I think he was pretty keen to explore new things but maybe felt he couldn't as evidenced by what followed in the 70's

Tilt is actually my favourite Scott album, but those 1-4 albums are very close behind and they are very special recordings

...then he went and reformed with the walker brothers and made some (arguably) so-so country albums, before all change again in the 80s, and 90s and 2000s with some of the most disturbing and mindblowing music ever made. Standing still and repeating himself is one thing you cannot accuse Walker of.
