I usually support any English team when they're playing against some team from another country (most Spanish clubs -but not all- excepted), so I was happy when they won. Are there any clear rivalries apart from the obvious ones (Sheffield Wednesday vs. Sheffield United, Liverpool vs. Everton, Manchester United vs. Manchester City...)? I mean, does North usually go against South? Or East agains West? Is there any team no one but their supporters like? Does people from one county usually support teams from the same county, or just the opposite?

(I know this is complex, but just in case you can give me a general idea.)

No but my uterus has been pressing against my bladder. It's the thought of Wednesday night games on Channel 5. Not good for your waterworks. x

I don't mind Millwall. Used to watch them a fair bit in the early nineties when a mate of mine lived near the old Den. They generate some genuine passion in their ground and I certainly prefer them to the bigger London clubs.

That was miserable on Saturday night. Chelsea played for penalties and they got what they wanted. Bayern proved that you have to take your million chances otherwise you'll rue their missing.

Only York getting promoted went the way I wanted at the weekend. Hibs, Blackpool and Bayern all losing.

As far as i'm concerned the following are all bastards permanently beyond redemption:

Rotherham
Scunthorpe
Hull
MK Dons
Stevenage
Crawley
Chester
Accrington
Dagenham
Mansfield
Southport
Barrow
Lincoln
Man U (which should really go without saying)

There are of course other minor irritants and some who float in and out of indifference (see cuurently Blackburn  ).

They will be playing against Sheffield Wednesday next year, won't they? I'm trying to make a mental list of favourite teams in the Championship, based on very sound criteria, like my knowing where their town is, my liking their home colours, my thinking their name sounds good... But I don't mind placing Millwall very low in the list .

Most of them are kind of too obscure for me. But I used to like Blackburn Rovers, though. Mmm, I though my list of (Spanish) offending teams was longer than usual, but I see some people's are even longer!

York beat Crewe Alexandra in 1993 in the play-offs in my only visit to (the old) Wembley. It didn't do them much good as they have just got promoted back into the league.

'The Alex' are at Wembley on Sunday in an attempt for promotion in the play-offs.

Come on you Railwaymen!

How can you have a list of "all bastards permanently beyond redemption" without Leeds on it!

Rotherham..........what is it? New ground envy? The fact that your lot are going backwards or just that
the entire club is run like Billy Smarts?

I've always been indifferent to Leeds, probably becasue my Dad is from that way and a Leeds fan (as much as he's a football fan).

The New York shed is hardly worthy of envy, especially as we've got our own new ground and we're even capable of filling ours now and again.

You're down as a pre-season friendly to get New York 75% full so they can issue a safety certificate!

The only football match I've ever seen was at Bristol City (against Newcastle) when I was 10. Micky Quinn was playing for the Toon and everyone was yelling at him for being fat. I couldn't believe how crap all the players were on both teams. I'd seen football on TV before and assumed everyone would be as good as that. Then this bloke took a piss on the terraces. And everyone was yelling and swearing. What a load of shit, I thought to myself and I've never been to watch a game since.

But weirdly, I read about football everyday.

The old Gallowgate end at Newcastle was marvellous for piss rivers. The bogs were about halfway up the stairs and would flood very quickly with everyone filled up on McEwans Best Scotch and the urinals being of the old park public toilet variety. Sure enough by the time off kick off they'd be overflowinglike High Force.
