Another genius passes on....

His silent film "The Plank" still causes my kids to crease up.

Agree. Very sad. Heard him interviewed on Robert Elms last year and he was really sharp.

We always used to watch him when we were kids. My dad thought Hattie Jacques was a stunner. x

He reminds me of my childhood too. He always had a twinkle in his eye and looked on the verge of laughter most of the time. God bless him.

Such a lovely man, and so very very clever - he reminds me of Saturday night tele when I was a kid, he was just 'always there' - he and Hattie Jaques, just a great double act.
Bless them both.

Yes, sorry to hear this news. Used to love watching him & Hattie Jacques. Often think of one storyline where they'd bought a cat, which kept clawing the bedclothes from Eric's bed, so he'd tied them - & himself - on with rope :*: ..>

My dad loved Eric Sykes – and loved Hattie Jacques, he thought she was beautiful. Her and Nurse Gladys Emmanuel. Likes a woman in good proportion, my dad. x

Really sad to hear this yesterday - memories of childhood watching Eric Sykes and Hattie Jacques in our house - such a shame

Sykes was a great comic writer and performer. I adore The Plank and he wrote Goon shows with Spike Milligan so for those alone he deserves to be remembered. Of course his talents were more diverse than that and he was a person I always liked to hear in interviews.

RIP
