Even more of a shame that the gig was moved from the Tivoli to the Old Museum :(
The Old Museum was a good venue but it just didn't seem big enough or grand enough to house the music, if that makes any sense. Maybe it was just me, husband was quite happy!

Tropical storms have now passed over Brisbane and we're waiting at the airport to see if our flights to Melbourne leave. Hopefully we will make it in time for tomorrow's gig. :D
The storm is now heading down into NSW towards Sydney tho', which is where team Hawley are now  Assuming they made it there yesterday....

Not had chance to check Aus media for reviews/interviews as the storm has affected some telecoms. Hopefully when we get to Melbourne I can check that out and let you know

Ahhhh - all becomes clear - I found an audience pic of the Old Museum but it was too big to post.

Top gig in Melbourne last night. The venue was a bit dingy (think Nottingham Rock City about one third the size) so a shame this date was downsized too as the place was pretty packed and the crowd were up for it. Egged on by RH's comment that 'Sydney was good' I think. Interstate rivalry is pretty fierce here, esp NSW/VIC. But everyone seemed to have a great time. It was certainly one of the best gigs I've been to in ages. Top night (tho got a bit of a nip in me head this morning!) :*:
Off to Perth today.

The show last night in Melbourne was magic - A huge "thank you" to RH and the band for travelling such a long way to perform. The crowd (who were jammed in like sardines) certainly appreciated the show and were eating out of RH's hand from start to finish.

Opening act came on about 9.00 and was a very nice lead in to RH and the band . Rob Snarski (lovely voice) and Dan Luscombe (both with guitars) playing what I think were all original compositions - great choice for the support act.
The RH came on about 10ish and finished up just after midnight. The band seemed to be very relaxed were just amazing - it was a great night

That would have been one of my all-time dream gigs - Rob Snarski's voice is a thing of wonder and anyone who's not checked out his group, The Blackeyed Susans, should do. They've played one UK gig, as far as I'm aware in their history - and I was fortunately there, at the Borderline, a couple of years ago. I hope Mr H sees fit to invite Rob over...

I had waited years to see Richard Hawley, relying on YouTube instead, wondering if he'd ever make it to New Zealand. Well, he still hasn't and if the mountain won't come, then I just have to go to the mountain — Melbourne. Worth every cent! Absolutely mind-blowing. I will never forget the experience. Everything I've heard about his live performances was true. I still prefer the older stuff, mind. Open Up Your Door brought tears to me eyes. What a talent. Thanks for coming down this way, but please come to Auckland next time, mate!

Got back home from Hawley week yesterday and getting back to the hum drum after a really lovely week away. Had a good old bimble around Melbourne and Perth, but spent most of our time in Brisbane sheltering from tropical cyclone Oswald. Never thought to pack wet weather gear....
The music all week was outstanding, especially in Melbourne, although I couldn't hear much of the support due to the constant talking in the crowd, which was a real shame as Rob Snarski deserved more attention. Thankfully the crowd did pay attention to RH and band and the atmosphere was terrific once it all got going.
The Brisbane crowd were a little subdued, but that may have had something to do with the weather - it was shocking. But the band were on top form and it was such a thrill to finally hear the music live, Remorse Code especially.
The Perth gig was a great end to the week, although RH was less chatty with the crowd. He said this was due to jet lag but may also have been due to some of the talking during the show and some of the idiotic comments from the crowd (someone asked why he was giving up smoking... :? ) but this did not detract from the music and I was really sad when it was all over. Heaven only knows when we will get chance to see them again. But I'm so glad we had our trip and went to more than one gig. I was also pleased to get my husband to take some holiday - it was a great break for him and we probably wouldn't have had the time off otherwise.
Big thanks due to RH and team for making the effort to come all this way. I know what a sod of a journey it can be and the jet lag for a week's trip must have been really shitty. And also thanks for the huge effort it must have been to bring all those guitars and amps and stuff - must have been a nightmare at the airports all week!! Sorry the crowds weren't bigger and the weather wasn't better. At least the sun shone a bit in Melbourne, and it was warm enough in Perth to dispense with the leather jacket.. 8) Safe journey home xxx

PS - just got round to listening to the acoustic set from the Melbourne radio show (had no internet all week other than the phone, and it really annoys me trying to navigate the internet on my phone). Anyway - yes - the acoustic set - completely lovely and a real contrast to the live shows with the band. Well worth a listen if you haven't yet, and only available for another couple of days I think....
