Sounds like a dodgy venue if they don't have their own public liability insurance....
I'd add it to your fee so you're not out of pocket.

What happens when someone trips over one of your cables or one of your PA cabs falls on their head and they decide to sue? Very unlikely a 'wedding venue's' PLI will cover that, I reckon it would be your liability.

I'm pretty sure your tours are insured for such eventualities boss, (I have my own Public liability insurance as well).

Pretty sure the MU provide reasonable cover for wedding bands etc...

Our block of flats has public liability insurance, but the guy we employ to clean also has to have his own.

http://www.publicliabilityinsurance.org/what-is#type

"Do I Need Public Liability Coverage?

The necessity and legal obligations for businesses to have a public liability policy can differ dependant upon your individual circumstances and the sector in which you operate.

If you are self employed trader, providing products or services to either other businesses or the public, you are not obliged by law to have the insurance. You are, however, advised to give the matter serious consideration, as your business would be liable to cover the full costs of any claims successfully brought against you. In the cases of many self employed people, the business is often you personally."

Cheers everyone, yeah i was unsure at first, The venue is a hotel that arent cpvered bytheir own insurance for dj's / bands etc, but are insured to have weddings. the woman specifically asked for our own Public Liability insurance., we've never been asked before and we sort of presumed that venues would cover it.
But then again, obviously if a speaker was to fall on someone then technically it's our fault isn't it?
Been looking at one place that charges around £80 a year for cover up to 5 million, althought you can take out musical instrument insurance to cover 10 grands worth of equipment for around £30 and you get the PLI included with that which covers claims up to 1 million,
We're basically doing the gig for beers and travel expenses so obviously don't wanna be out of pocket.

See if you can get the insurance just for the night. I used to work in insurance but that was decades ago. An insurance broker on the High Street might be able to help, if they still exist.

Sometimes you have to pay it if you're doing an outdoor thing or in a marquee or something. I played at a cheese festival once and had to pay it! You can get 1 day insurance for sure.
