So.....are you all happy with your choice of Political Party's opening salvo or are they all spouting
the usual bullshit bollocks in an attempt to gain votes?

Correct.

Should be an interesting night tho' - even I may stay up armed with 24 cans of larger - and see the results roll in.

Think Dave trying to eat a hot dog with a knife and fork has been the best so far. They're all such a bunch of c***s that it's hard to choose – austerity or austerity-lite. Am wavering on the edge of Green but, as I'm in Duncan Smith's constituency, there are more than a fair few loonies standing too. One of them might receive my vote, hard won through the struggle of the sisters. A few weeks to go, we'll see. xxx

I'm voting Labour. Absolute shite, but the least toxic shite, I'll wager.

Ever closer and still no nearer to deciding. Not received a knock on the door from any of them, although did corner the Labour candidate outside the Tube about two weeks ago. Asked him did he support halving the budget of the Labour council-run music school my sons are in. Spent the whole five minutes telling me he'd look in to things and email me, he'd get back to me, I had some interesting points. Has he got back to me? Not a word. The fact is, confronted with uncomfortable truths from life-long Labour voters like myself, he had nothing to say, apart from "I hear you". Yes, you hear me, but are you fucking listening?

I would much rather campaign for change with a Labour government than with a Tory one. But do they even want me to vote for them? Are old Labour voters like me just surplus to requirements? x

And Ed would rather not have a Labour government if it means being in coalition with the SNP. Five more years of the Tories then?

They are all utter and total c***s every last one of them,we don't just need a change of government we need a new system cos this just isn't working for the majority of people,if the Tories get back in though and they start slashing the welfare state and the NHS we will see poverty and suffering in this country on a mass level not seen since before the war.......I find it terrifying that anyone could vote for them......but then again Blair took us to war and huge debt...........are there any other options?help please

I agree. We need a new system, a new way for society to be. I am terrified, not for me, because I feel I’ve done the right thing and tried to speak out for what I believe in. I’m scared for my kids and what will happen to their world, when the story of how people fought for rights in the past is dimming into history.

I feel standards are constantly being lowered for them – it was ok for middle aged politicians to have had free education, grants, benefits, a living wage, permanent jobs, pensions, a good NHS. But will it be there for them? Today’s politicians have enjoyed the benefits of the brave, new optimism of the welfare state, then pulled the ladder up for their kids and grandkids. And that frightens me.

As for voting, I think if you’re in a safe, safe Labour seat or a safe, safe Tory seat, you can vote for who-ever you like. If you are in a marginal, you have to vote to get rid of the Tories and vote progressive. If I was in Thanet, I’d vote Labour, just to make sure Farage (who the word c**t was made for) didn’t get in.

But I won’t be voting Labour this time. I’m in a safe Tory seat – Ian Duncan Smith, in fact, shithouse that he is. Asked the Labour candidate what he thought about cuts in my son’s music school, which I have been campaigning against. He said he agreed with the cuts and I should think myself lucky it hadn’t been cut before!

He obviously doesn’t want old school Labour votes like mine, people who are anti-austerity, don’t agree with cuts, especially in education. So I am going to vote Green or there is a trade union coalition party in my area, I might give it to them. My vote won’t be ‘wasted’ as I’m using it positively, to vote for something I want not against something I don’t.

Coming from a solid Labour tradition, I am sick and tired of my party doing nothing to properly stand up to cuts before an election, then scaremongering if I want to vote for someone else on polling day. The truth is, we have a Tory government now and we’ll have Tory lite if Labour are elected. And the sad thing is, they just admit it when you ask them.

Saying all that, I’d rather fight a Labour government than a Tory one but I’ll leave that to people who are going to vote for them.

I think the time is long overdue for something else. I have been really interested in the Green, Plaid, SNP women, who have been passionate and articulate and offer a real alternative. Whilst I’m generally not a nationalist, if I were in Wales, I would vote for Leanne Wood, who I really admire.

I think that, whatever happens, good people have stand up and do something, especially for the NHS which I think could be gone in my lifetime.

Off my soapbox and on to the wine now. Take care all. x

Nowt wrong with good use of a soapbox. I have the same predicament with a safe Tory seat - despite it being Labour in 1997. My only option other than Labour is the Green Party and they might very likely get my vote but it does feel a bit pointless. In lots of ways Milliband has shown a little more connection with real life but the outright rebuttal of the SNP is extremely stupid and a childish thing to do when we could be facing the Cameron Farage Clegg nightmare. If he can kick his brother in the nuts he can surely live with compromises that will block the Tories and their bedfellows. I appreciate he has to deal with the Daily Mail outrage and that Labiur have a gierce battle with the SNp but he should be clever enough to leave his options open. There are still Labour MPs like Andy Burbham I have time for but the present system has collapsed. If we are going to have back door compromise governments it would maybe be worth looking at PR again, something I've not always been a fan of. As it stands it just feels like picking the leadt worst option or an encouragement gor small parties who say more of the right things but who aren't going to be in any sort of government.

Depressing. Everyone I know voted Labour, Green or trade union coalition and I wake up to a Tory government. Are some of my friends proper cunts and not admitting it?

I am scared for the NHS and the world my kids will inherit.

Voting for change doesn't seem to have worked so can we take to the streets now? Tomorrow, I will be protesting about Nazis marching through my town and next week, we are campaigning to stop cuts to my sons' school. Is there anyone with me? xxx

Gin will help darling. And I think the engagement with election discussion on this forum is a bit of a mirror of society. Nobody has caught the imagination, except for the women. It's not too late...xxxxx
