Been thinking for a while now, there's nothing like a good "list" to get debate going. And it would fit nicely around the release of the 10th studio album and tour.

Me and a mate did a Bruce one on the Backstreets.com website back in 2012 - quite a bit of work, but I enjoyed doing it, and if you'd like to start thinking, let me know how you'd like it to work, tell me to pi$$ off, whatever.....

Meanwhile here's a link to what we did before, and you can see the results from over 1000 responders over there (you may need to register/login)

http://www.backstreets.com/btx/viewtopi ... n+Page+104

It probably got a bit more detailed/complicated there than it would need to be here. After all we were dealing with the yanks in their own back yard on their website. We could simply do 'stick up a list of your top 10 ranked 1-10' and I'll collate it after a certain amount of time

Take care all (and see you at Roundhouse....

EDIT here's the plan for the results.
To keep it interesting I'll organise it thus

Day 1 - most voted for album (sum of total votes cast)
Day 2 - frequency of times that any song was voted "top choice" (from all that received a "top" of list ranking)
Day 3 - frequency that a song was voted for - all contributors (top 20 only)
Day 4 - bottom up list of total equivalent points* scored for any song, up to number 21 ranked song. This list will feature the "lost songs" that Richard is interested in
Day 5 - top 20 by total number of equivalent points* scored for any song

* total equivalent points takes all lists where there were 6 or more songs listed and allocates points as follows - 10 for song at top of list running down to 1 for tenth song.

We have to put up with the fact that about 10% of contributions stated "in no particular order"

When will the results sequence start ? To be honest I'm not sure as I am having hip replacement operation on 5th January - also bear with me as Days 1-5 may not be consecutive.

Mike

A very subjective top 10 this, based upon the impact the songs had on me personally. If I had to pick a 'best of' it'd be slightly different. A bit heavy on Coles Corner and Lady's Bridge, probably because that's when I got into Richard's music.

1. For Your Lover Give Some Time
2. Precious Sight
3. Serious
4. Coles Corner
5. Tuesday PM
6. Just Like the Rain
7. I'm Looking For Someone to Find Me
8. Hotel Room
9. Dark Road
10. Tonight the Streets Are Ours

I tried this a few years back and got to about three - that took me a week so I'll be posting my list come the end of October...

I like the short rock out numbers so 'Down In The Woods' ' Heart Of Oak' should figure - I have a thing for the instrumentals - so 'Last Orders' and 'Danny' are pretty much a sure bet - 'Long Black Train' is probably my number one - 'Run To Me' not far behind - we're getting there...

I'll take that as a "yes" then. I've no idea how many regular posters there are on here, but shall we let it run, say, until the last date of the tour, then I'll do a collate and summary ?
I'll score it 10th choice gets one point, up to first choice gets 10 points. Keep it nice and simple.
Maybe Denise will sticky it ???? - and I'll change the subject title accordingly.
Mine's still being worked on , got it down to a short list of 14 - but mine will almost certainly have at least two off Hollow Meadows.......
Enjoy - and if there are any 'stories' or 'reasons why' for your choices, and you're prepared to share, it will make it a darn good read.
Cheers all :Hoorah

5/9/2007 was a life-changing day. I'd heard this compelling tune on the radio somewhere that I later came to understand was the title track from Coles Corner. The missus wasn't blessed with the same degree of enthusiasm as me (from deep in rural Wiltshire) so I called my daughter who was studying at the Royal Veterinary College and living in Camden - girl are you up for this guy's gig at the Roundhouse ?
Well we had a blast, and I left in a different world. Hooked by the melodies and touched by the familiarity and down-to-earthness of this busking maestro.
I never thought you could better Coles Corner, and to be fair it remains a firm favourite but now I seem to have 5-6 Hawley songs that continually run around my brain. The Ocean takes it as I am smitten. Even to the extent that I was once pestering Graham and Richard to get a gig together at The Minack in Cornwall (where the vid was shot, and we had a house near there at that time) - that remains a challenge ! I guess if you can play the Devil's Arse, you can get a gig organised anywhere ! I still live in hope even though we had to sell the house.

On to the New Theatre Oxford the following February (08) and Richard sorted me front row seat on the Lady's Bridge tour, as I had just had my first hip replacement and was not very mobile. The night curiously that a lot of the conversation got going re The Tony Christie collaboration.

I only saw two more gigs after that - one at Milton Keynes, another at the Festival Hall where I got to meet a number of the crew on here - Denise, Julie and a few others. But now it's serendipity having let the Sky's Edge moment pass - happy to be off to the Roundhouse again in November, two months ahead of my right hip replacement (4th January '16) and 8 years after the hook went in. And on the back of a great new album.

Richard is wonderful songsmith with a f'ckin great band - now right up there with my all time favourite musician Bruce Springsteen - and to be fair songs 10-20 in my Hawley list are a lot more difficult to sort out than 1-10. Indeed getting 10 from 13 was really difficult. Special mention to There's a storm a coming, Room with a view, and For your lover give some time. Hushabye Mountain is excluded because it's a cover and I can't get my head around putting it in - what would have to go ????

1. The Ocean
2. Coles Corner
3. Open up your door*
4. Something is
5. Run for me
6. Tonight the streets are ours
7. I still want you
8. Lady's Bridge
9. Tuesday PM
10. Remorse Code

* got me at a very difficult point in my relationship. Posed me questions I just could not answer at the time. Eventually I looked at the lyric in a different way, not in the first person but as if I was on the receiving end. Bingo. Thanks Richard, truly I thank you.

God bless everyone on here - and enjoy the poll http://richardhawleyforum.co.uk/templates/exposion_dark/images/logo_phpBB_med.gif

Jamesy asked me to participate so here goes...

I found it absolutely impossible to compile a top ten as it really depends what mood I am in as to which are my favourites at any given moment. So I am cheating! :D

I have managed to narrow it down to a top ten each of both live and studio tracks. Even that was hard!

Live -

1. Run for me
2. Oh my love
3. Lady Solitude (Devils Arse version)
4. Hushabye Mountain
5. The Only Road
6. Soldier On
7. Tonight
8. Standing at the Skys Edge
9. High heel sneakers (radio session)
10. Serious

Studio -

1. Hotel Room (single version)
2. Darlin'
3. Room with a view
4. Open up your door
5. There's a Storm a comin'
6. Long time down
7. Sea Calls
8. Lonely Night
9. I'm on nights
10. You don't miss your water.

Honourable mentions go to Some Candy Talking and Weary (with Lisa Marie Presley live at Shepherds Bush).

It all adds up to an impressive canon of work, may RH long continue to entertain and delight us all with such beautiful music 8)

1 - Tonight
2 - The Nights Are Cold
3 - Don't Stare At The Sun
4 - Sorry I Lost My Way
5 - Time Will Bring You Winter
6 - Water Boy
7 - Leave Your Body Behind You
8 - Don't Get Hung Up In Your Soul
9 - Naked In Pitsmoor
10 - The World Looks Down

I've just realised in doing this I tend to bathe myself in melancholy (it's 2 for 1 in Superdrug)
