We'd waited years to get the council house & when we moved in it had been 'modernised' with kind of new-old stock, so we had a brand new Belfast sink & wooden draining boards (in 1977, when they were still old fashioned rather than trendy) a coal grate (ditto) no central heating, painted bricks in the kitchen & only one electric socket in the whole house. We had to pay an electrician to fit a couple before we could move in. Two years later the house next door came empty & they threw the works at it, posh kitchen, radiators, gas fire, you name it. Mum had our name on it like a flash. When we moved in we took the fence down temporarily & carried all the furniture through the gap. About three days before Christmas!

Ha! - we did something similar a few weeks back - put stuff on the back of a trailer linked to a mates Land Rover - looked like the May Day parade in October...

Feeling a bit low after spending all week laid up with a pukey bug so been indulging in holiday porn to cheer myself up.

Three weeks here in summer and a week in the wild Lakes in February, just keep your eyes on the prize...

Just had a boiled egg, with toastie soldiers, and salt and a cup of tea. Oh, the small things... but don't know if I can think about "budgies' 'eads" just yet, lovely... I can feel that egg coming back the other way...

Intend to have a lovely rest over Christmas and get ready for a year of change. Think my much-muted redundancy is finally going to happen at the end of April, boy has GCSEs in May and then we intend to set out on a roadtrip in the camper, just me and the kids, Cornwall, Wales and France... and maybe Sheffield – well overdue on an invite to see Maggie and Monkey Boy so may get to see what all you northern types are going on about...

Either way, change is a good thing. xxx

Bring us back some cake ..>

With retirement on the horizon I priced up a retrun trip to Inverness on the Caledonian Sleeper....came in at just over £700...so it looks like a trip on the Ffestiniog railway after a few pints in The Station Hotel with an hours snooze before arrival in Porthmado instead for me...

Picture from a friend... Storm Imogen comes to Porthcurno...

Stellar place. My boy has his GCSEs in May and I've promised that, soon as they're over and done with, I'll take him for a few days to blow the cobwebs away... Is providing a good incentive to revise...

Yes amazing photography I'd love a copy one of these days, having been in that exact spot in a somewhat less hazardous storm your friend is very erm.....brave  .....I remember leaving the beach as it was getting far too rough for our little kids then coming back the next day and there wasn't any sand left the sea had swept it ALL away....it was really eerie....a couple of days later we went back and the sea had brought it all back again.... :eh?
