Hey all,

It's been a while.

A very good friend of mine lost his father last year. His father had been a folk musician in the Birmingham area and had kept all of his guitars. There are nine in total and they would like to sell them, but not get ripped off. Where is the best place to get valuations? I have pictures...

Cheers,

Mike

I'm not sure if there are any specific services for placing guide prices on guitars unless they are to be sold by the store in a commission type arrangement. If that makes sense. Although most stores are very helpful so would likely help you out if you asked nicely. I know the UK's biggest chain "GuitarGuitar" sell complete collections from time to time and, despite the large corporate feel of the place, they have always been very good with me.

I'd be happy to help with some research if you post the details and some photos? I spend 70% of my day playing guitar or looking at guitar books/websites anyway!

Maybe an auction house that has specialised music instrument days?

Best would be to sell it in a vintage guitar shop and the store take a little commission on the sale (maybe 10-15%) - if you sell outright to the store they will only pay 50% of the value to make a profit (rip off but I guess they need to survive) or at least that's been my experience in the couple times I've gone thru that process

or sell yourself on ebay/reverb is also an option
